Charm City to Host Inaugural Event in July 2014 Featuring Eight Countries Battling for Title of World’s Best Golf Nation

(OWINGS MILLS, MD) – The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) today celebrated the “Year from Here” of the inaugural International Crown event which will be played July 22-27, 2014 at Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, MD.  The International Crown is the first-of-its-kind biennial, global, team match play competition, featuring eight countries from across the globe and the top four ranked players from each of those countries.

Today’s “Year From Here” event showcased the strength of Golf’s Global Tour with LPGA Professionals I.K. Kim (Korea), Pernilla Lindberg (Sweden), Sarah-Jane Smith (Australia) and Gerina Piller (United States) all in attendance at Caves Valley to promote the Crown and the launch of ticket sales and volunteer registration.

“Caves Valley Golf Club is a beautiful and historic venue, and is a perfect destination for this inaugural event,” said I.K. Kim, who is currently ranked in 9th in the LPGA Rolex World Rankings (as of July 15, 2013). “I would be honored to have the opportunity to represent my country on this global stage, as I know my fellow players would.”

Weekly Grounds Tickets ($99.00 each) and Weekly International Pavilion tickets ($185.00 each) can be purchased through the tournament website at www.LPGAInternationalCrown.com.

The International Pavilion is a large hospitality venue located adjacent to the 11th green which features a climate controlled environment with indoor and outdoor seating, cable television service, private restrooms and a complete, upscale, pay-as-you-go food and beverage menu.  International Pavilion tickets also provide access to the tournament grounds, public grandstands, concession stands and on-course restrooms.

With the International Crown just one year away, the competition has begun to intensify as countries and players battle for the coveted goal of qualifying their country and being one of the four players to represent their countries flag.

“Caves Valley and the entire Baltimore community have been unbelievable partners and we can’t wait to share this experience with all of our volunteers, tournament patrons and corporate partners” said Rich Thomas, Tournament Director.  Once tournament week arrives and the national anthems are playing, the flags are waving and the competition begins, the world will experience the magnitude of this event.”

The final field of eight countries will be determined by the combined Rolex World Rankings of the top four players from each country at the conclusion of the 2013 season-ending CME Group Titleholders event (November 25) in Naples, Florida.

The top four individual players for each of the qualifying countries will then be determined by the Rolex World Rankings on the Monday of the LPGA’s first major championship in 2014, the Kraft Nabisco Championship.

Currently the country standings are led by Team Korea, with world #1 Inbee Park pacing her team.  The United States, Japan, Spain, Australia, Sweden, Thailand and Chinese Taipei round out the top eight countries.  For a complete list of country and player standings please visit, www.LPGAInternationalCrown.com.
